hi

recently i saw a person in a local car boot sale selling dvd players, dvd/vcr combi's, hoovers, microwaves and much more.

the thing that struck me was that all the stock this person had i am sure was bought from gem discounts or some other large ex-catalogue wholesaler but what i dont understand is he claimed that all his stock had been tested and all worked fine, he must have had like 3-4 pallets or more of this stock.

i believed that ex-catalogue wholesalers sell mostly broken stock or stock that has pieces missing or something so cannot be sold but if that was true how is it possible for this person to sell that stock in my local car boot, buying from gem discounts like people claim would only give you maybe 30% goods working rest would be faulty but i have started to believe that this is not true as this seller was able to sell so much stock which would mean that maybe roughly 70-80% of his stock must have been in perfect condition.

so if anyone has bought from gem discounts please tell what your experience was ( true experience ) as i have recently ordered from gem discounts aswell and will know more when i get my pallet but the amount of stock or pieces ie 78 would surely mean that half should work or maybe a bit more than half right ?

anyway let me know what you guys think

best regards

i have purchased ex catalogue pallets before but not from gem discounts. basically some products will be completely fine, some will be missing something like remote for a TV, or a plug, some have minor damage which someone who knows what they are doing can repair easily, and some stuff may be useless. so this person must have tested and repaired the stock

I recently bought from a company based in church Lancashire called palletstogo and they do different grades of stock which you can view first and the pallets that I bought I got a good percentage of working stock

I used Rossmore house who are part of a larger outfit I believe, and get some good stuff. be wary about buying online - always go and see the stuff yourself. We hired a van, went to Ellesmere Port and got two pallets of decent stock. Thing is, when you go yourself, you can haggle with them. I got £200 off the total value as most of the stock was just 'filler' stuff like little hand cream pots & odds and sods that had made up retail values.
My personal experience has been to get pallets with maybe 5 or 6 immediate sellers like baby or kids stuff on them. i sold the kids' stuff within a few days, broke even, and everything else was just profit. Anything like Mamas & Papas or Mothercare will go out immediately. TV's and DVD players etc. I'd never touch as you struggle to sell it to people who have heard of ex-catalogue stock. Just my opinion. Good luck!

Not everybody deals in returns and graded stock. Manufacturers and large retailers need to sometimes clear out re packaged or old stock to make room for new seasonal lines. This stuff is bran new, perfectly conditioned stock and usually bought up by clearance specialists who then sell to discount stores. Some will sell to the smaller retailer, car booter ebayer e.t.c If you look hard enough you can find them.
