Has anyone used it? Would you consider it safe? (as long as your not buying brands)

It is safe yes. Like above thread make sure you sound out the supplier. Sometimes lowest price isn't always best quality.

I noticed especially when they are charging $100 for shipping a near weightless item too scared to use alibaba though

there is an option to select free shiping to a selected country. I usually use this but also double check the price, supplier etc.

However there are some suppliers with ridiculous shipment rates for small items.
