Official distribution channels?
On average whats the MOQ typically required for an order from an official product distributor.
Also, do they only sell to b&m stores? I would like a store in my area especially as there currently isn't one of its kind but to raise the capital I wanted to start out on a website.

Re: Official distribution channels?
Depends on the product, the distributor and what terms you are wanting (i.e. if you are wanting exclusive rights then you will need to buy in vast qtys)

Re: Official distribution channels?
This is the right time to get in touch with official distributor. Steiff was reps was in the store last week looking for new retailers. The thing is four years ago they would not even talk to me. The start up plan was 1000 euro.
The above post is correct it depends on the product.
One of Europe largest game and toy supplier I use to buy from, there min. was only 300 euros.
Ecko Unlimited start up package was 6000 euro.
Puma Exclusive there start up was also about 6000 euro. Puma exclusive do not have the full range of puma
products but for small store its a very good start.

Re: Official distribution channels?
Every company has different requirements, some companies will require a monthly order others will have a minimum annual purchase order.

Re: Official distribution channels?
Hi,
As mentioned it depends on product and there are various terms etc but there is no harm in trying. I have emailed a few big brands to see if I can buy direct from them. More often than not you will be asked for your current trading position and politely turned down if you are not B&M or a have a big web presence. But saying that you might find someone who will supply you on a smaller scale and/or point you to distributors/wholesalers of their stock. I tend to email as I prefer to draft up what I want to ask but you can always use the phone, at the end of the day you have nothing to lose by contacting your desired source and you never know you might strike lucky.

Re: Official distribution channels?
i've tried to get in ouch with a company called fourmarketing who deal with d&g, evisu, true religion etc and they don't want to know, they have been pretty rude and fobbed me off loads, just shows what happens when you try and do things the right as a new company and you get pushed back

Re: Official distribution channels?
AS everyone has said depends on the distributor and products offered. as you mentioned fourmarketing, (like alot of large distributors unfortuntely) they do not care one bit about small traders. they all have their big businesses who purchase thousands of pounds worth of stuff a month, a few extra quid month from a new trader, they just dont seem bothered!

Hi,
Most big companies/distributers will probaly be like this, although I would like to think they are not all rude, a polite turn down is what I might expect. Once you get a refusal then I would not bother with them again, as they are unlikely to change their mind. You have to keep plugging away and you may eventually find someone who will put you in contact with a smaller wholesaler if they wont deal with you direct. Its not going to be easy, you have to take the knockbacks but something may turn up. Normally you would have to be in some sort of trading position, so as a minimum you might say "I/We trade online", keep it simple and go from there. Also try searching for wholesalers of your desired brands, some of the brands you are after may be available on here. Dont let this put you off, you have started on the right foot, good luck.

Re: Official distribution channels?
Online selling is more difficult due to brand restrictions, each brand will have their own policies.
This website www.infomat.com has information on the fashion industry.
