Default designer clothing & fakes - the problem

I have 'advertised' on other threads in this forum, stating that I have access to a large amount of a range of designer clothing, all at very good prices. Most people have asked me if i can prove that the clothing I can supply is 100% authentic, so i just want to comment on this -

There are 3 categories developing in the world of designer clothing sales -

1. there are clothing items which can be verified 200% as genuine, as a certificate of authenticity is provided by the manufacturer, and given to the authorised wholesaler, often it is possible to produce this to reassure a buyer totally.

2. there are goods (mainly sold on ebay) which are clearly fake - their ridiculously low price and 'shoddy' finish gives them away quite easily. You know you are buying a fake.

Then there is a 3rd area! - clothing which is so good, and almost indistinguishable from the real thing. These are probably the most popular sales on online sites. It is often very difficult for anyone to tell them apart, the finish is accurate, right down to the last detail.
it is this category which presents such a problem for the buyer, and indeed the seller, (who is often unaware the goods are fake). Are these goods real, or are they fake? How do you know? Sometimes even shop assistants don't know!

let me put a dilemma to you - potential customers of mine -

I can supply you with zathan diesel jeans. i can categorically tell you they are 100% authentic, bought from an authorised wholesaler that i know. proof of authenticity can be obtained, and traced back to the manufacturer if you like, and I'll produce it for you, if you wish - so thats great! isn't it?....

The downside! I would be buying these jeans in at £x a pair, and selling on to you at approx £55-£65 per pair. You will then need to sell them on at perhaps £80+ a pair to make it worth your while! Check on Ebay how much Diesel jeans are, you will see that you are competing against low prices, and you will be up against it.

So when you are selling the genuine article, you struggle , even when you strain to tell everyone your clothing is genuine.

I can also sell you a good range of A&F and Seven goods etc. However I cannot guarantee these are 100% authentic, I am told by my supplier that they are, but I cannot give you written proof of authenticity! These jeans look great, as far as I am aware they seem genuine - they come through customs with their certificates all approved. The difference is, I can supply you at a cheaper price than those diesel jeans. Perhaps a pair of A&F jeans at only £18 a pair - great profit for you!

So there's your dilemma - Buy the Diesels at £55 a pair, or buy the A&F jeans at £18 a pair - the choice is yours!

What will your decision be? Will you buy 20 pairs of diesels off me for £1000 +?

Cheers
stevie

Good Post stevie,

I know other people that have made similar statements to yours, seems like a very tough market to be in.

Have you got anything else besides jeans?

You are completely right steve and your price for the Zathans are spot on!

We wholesale in small quantities, however I will never take the risk on selling anything that I am not 100% sure of and I really only purhase within the UK from reputable companies I can visit and get sanitized invoices from. A lot of people are looking to sell on Ebay and as a result the Zathan jeans are more difficult to sell...however I have noticed a distinct change on Ebay and there is two markets being created. Yes there a lots of fake Diesel jeans imported from Thailand and Yes lots of people do buy them. However there are a few sellers selling genuine Diesel at quite good prices.

We use Ebay to clear items, we have sold Diesel Moorix jeans for £90, Diesel t-shirts for £25 - £30 and I sold an Armani Jeans current season tee for £45.00 recently.

The beauty of Ebay is that it is such a huge market - so for every 10 people that dont care about buying a fake there is maybe one that wants the real thing and is prepared to pay a reasonable price.

yes, thats true. Lets hope that the tide does turn at Ebay, and more people start choosing genuine clothing. Not sure how quick it will turn though!

Well if people like yourself decide to import masses of counterfeit and sell it as genuine - then probably not that soon!
