Just started following an active blogger on twitter.
He blogs around 5-10 times per hour.

I was once told that if you do too many blog posts, it can have a negative effect on
your google ranking/SEO. Is this true ?, or nonsence

I do articles on my wordpress blog 2-5 times a day. Usually this gets them on page one of
google search in around 3-5 days

I'm not an expert but it all really depends on what you are blogging about and the quality of the content you are producing - the new/latest google algorithm update takes into the quality of content and the uniqueness - so if you blog many times a day with low quality content then yes this will have a negative effect on your google ranking, but if you blog good quality articles often it should in fact help your google ranking.

Like I say I'm not an expert so can't give a definitive answer as to whether blogging too much can damage your ranking - but think about it, the more articles you write the more people have to read so if the quality isn't great they aren't going to bother reading everything and will start skipping the extra posts - depending on markets and industry as well, this could effect it also.

Agree with Sam, depends on your audience. I know a few bloggers who publish via mobile (usually about pop culture) and their posts can easily exceed 5x a day. Some readers want to stay updated on everything but if its for business, I don't think this market have all the time to read. Perhaps condensing content into a mega post is a better way to go - better chances of being shared too.

    Just a quick addition:
Yes it can indirectly have an effect on your SEO rankings based on your blog structure and index url's pagerank.

Internal links still play a large part in determining the relevancy and importance of your pages. For example a page that is stickied on the home page and is featured/linked to in other posts will potentially be deemed more important than a page that is accessible via 1 deep link path only.

Page rank is passed from one page to another through dofollow links. Most people's home page / index page has the highest page rank and therefore the most "link juice" to pass on. The more frequently you are posting the less featured time each individual post will have on the home page. Posting up a LOT of content frequently will be reducing the individual pages exposure to good internal placement. It will also be diluting the amount of pagerank that is dispersed over your site as a whole.

Don't get me wrong pagerank is not everything (far from it) it's just one of hundreds of factors that search engines consider. It may be the case that putting up regular content is appropriate to your business model. As always follow the advice of build a site for users and not for engines. SEO should always be a secondary thought after giving your users the best experience possible.

I would say 5 times a week, depending on the type of site is a good number of articles.

If you are managing blogs in such a time of period for targeted users with newsletters then it is sure that you will get ranking as well as traffic. It's totally a useless talk if we say that I am mad and do 20-25 posts a day, rather than to do such a out of memory bell.

Think a wider for one topic and write out a unique and catchy content for your audience. This will run out a best among all!!!
