    G'day all

I'm researching a potential brand name, which is influenced by domain name availability.

The plan B option has free availability of co.uk and .com. It's not my preferred name, but having the .com seems sensible. The co.uk helps.

My plan A preferred choice is only available as .co.uk. The .com us inactive but evidently costs ££££ to aquire, which simply isn't an option. If i promote the co.uk name and someone inadvertently types .com, they'll get a generic domain auction link and no reference to my business.

Is having the .com and .co.uk option a better business decision?

    I'd really appreciate some thoughts.

    Thank you

Have you asked to see how much it would be to acquire the .com domain?

Ideally having the .com and .co.uk is best for future proofing a brand.

Hi, yes it's about 2000 USD, which is more than I can justify at the moment

Offer them $500 if it's in your budget, worst they can say is no and it will be allot more than what they paid to maintain it :)

I agree with Jed - make them an offer. Some people will 'sit' on domains as a kind of investment, hoping someone will come in with a big offer, but after a while they are usually happy to get rid for less money.
