    Hi all,

So I'm completely new to drop-shipping and very happy to have found this forum.

You guys have been really helpful and there's lots of smart people here.

Hope you don't mind answering another one of my dumb questions...

The one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is what are the customs charges once the cargo lands.

I understand VAT and the Duty / Tarrif charges but it's the customs clearance and shipping line charges alongside anything else like forwarding agent charges and domestic charges that I can't seem to get an estimate for, or if I'm honest to fully understand.

The only information I seem to be able to find for sample costs online is that 'it varies'. Does anyone know any ball-park way of calculating this? It can be a rough cost, just so I can get some idea of what I should be paying, if it's closer to £50 or £500.

If it helps to know what I'm looking to ship it's:

An LCL container weighing 30 KG with M3 of 0.4473m3.

The cargo would depart from Ningbo, Shanghai, China and eventually need to end up in Manchester.

    Thanks all,

    Ian

Customs clearance & shipping line charges and if there are other charges like forward agent charges, domestic charges.

    Hi Ian,

Shipping by sea generally works on a minimum chargeable volume of 2 m3 - So you will pay the same for the shipment size above as you would for 2 m3.

I'm assuming you are buying on FOB terms so the charge will be from China Port to UK delivered door. It will vary from forwarder to forwarder but you should probably expect to pay around the £200/£250 mark as a very rough guide.

Bear in mind that Duty is payable on cost of goods + shipping and VAT is payable on cost of goods + shipping + duty.

Transit time will be a round a month.

    Kind regards,
    Darren.
