    If he's running his own business but has mistakingly put the incorrect domain in the title that's kind of the opposite of cyber squatting?

    Hi. My name is Skyler Black. As an eBay PowerSeller who runs a business on the site, I often find that people copy my descriptions (and nick my photos!). Having a warning in the description doesn't deter them, either. However, eBay do tend to remove the offending listings pretty quickly once I report them. You can find out more about eBay's policy on image and text theft at the link below, where you'll also find a link to report a listing.

    This is nice, but I do have to agree with an above poster about it being very annoying. Besides, a Firefox add-on can disable the JS easily anyway so if one is determined to copy, there is that option which requires no knowledge of coding, and there is the method of just manually copying and pasting. To solve the problem with the Firefox add-on, the easiest thing to do is create your text in Photoshop and upload it to an image sharing website such as Photobucket and as an image, the text can not be copied. The most foolproof way is to create your template in Flash. That is the most effective way and it will not only protect most high quality images*, it will also protect your text and everything on your template from being copied.

    *I say high quality images because it is possible to print screen your web browser and just crop out the product image that you need although the quality may suffer as a result. Even then, if the Flash is coded in a particular way, it is still possible to copy images at their full resolution.

    Also, the other thing with these scripts that disable right-click is that it doesn't stop being doing a Ctrl + C which is what most people do these days.

    You can easily protect an html listing by using a free html encrypter like iwebtool.com/html_encrypter

    Does opening the page source not render this competely useless ? Too lazy to test and find this out.

    Source in FireFox & Chrome - Ctrl+U

    IE - Alt+V+C... I think, you may have to use menus :)

    No, a web browser can make sense of it - but you won't be able to!

    For example a super simple page source code like this:

    CONTENT="keywords,keywords,keywords,keywords,keywords">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT="DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WEB PAGE HERE. MAKE SURE YOUR KEYWORDS SHOW UP HERE. THIS IS SOMETHING SEARCH ENGINES LOOK AT.">
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <h4>TITLE OF YOUR WEB PAGE</h4>
    <P>This is a very basic Web page template.</P>
    <P>Add anything you want here.
    <br>Anything!</P>
    <P>This is your place to be creative.
    <P>Add links: <a href="**************">TITLE OF LINK</a>.

    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    ...ends up something like this:

    <!--
    document.write(unescape('%43%4f%4e%54%45%4e%54%3d%22%6b%65%79%77%6f%72%64%73%2c%6b%65%79%77%6f%72%64%73%2c%6b%65%79%77%6f%72%64%73%2c%6b%65%79%77%6f%72%64%73%2c%6b%65%79%77%6f%72%64%73%22%3e%0d%0a%3c%4d%45%54%41%20%4e%41%4d%45%3d%22%64%65%73%63%72%69%70%74%69%6f%6e%22%20%43%4f%4e%54%45%4e%54%3d%22%44%45%53%43%52%49%50%54%49%4f%4e%20%4f%46%20%59%4f%55%52%20%57%45%42%20%50%41%47%45%20%48%45%52%45%2e%20%4d%41%4b%45%20%53%55%52%45%20%59%4f%55%52%20%4b%45%59%57%4f%52%44%53%20%53%48%4f%57%20%55%50%20%48%45%52%45%2e%20%54%48%49%53%20%49%53%20%53%4f%4d%45%54%48%49%4e%47%20%53%45%41%52%43%48%20%45%4e%47%49%4e%45%53%20%4c%4f%4f%4b%20%41%54%2e%22%3e%0d%0a%3c%2f%48%45%41%44%3e%0d%0a%3c%42%4f%44%59%3e%0d%0a%3c%68%34%3e%54%49%54%4c%45%20%4f%46%20%59%4f%55%52%20%57%45%42%20%50%41%47%45%3c%2f%68%34%3e%0d%0a%3c%50%3e%54%68%69%73%20%69%73%20%61%20%76%65%72%79%20%62%61%73%69%63%20%57%65%62%20%70%61%67%65%20%74%65%6d%70%6c%61%74%65%2e%3c%2f%50%3e%0d%0a%3c%50%3e%41%64%64%20%61%6e%79%74%68%69%6e%67%20%79%6f%75%20%77%61%6e%74%20%68%65%72%65%2e%0d%0a%3c%62%72%3e%41%6e%79%74%68%69%6e%67%21%3c%2f%50%3e%0d%0a%3c%50%3e%54%68%69%73%20%69%73%20%79%6f%75%72%20%70%6c%61%63%65%20%74%6f%20%62%65%20%63%72%65%61%74%69%76%65%2e%0d%0a%3c%50%3e%41%64%64%20%6c%69%6e%6b%73%3a%20%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%77%77%77%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%54%49%54%4c%45%20%4f%46%20%4c%49%4e%4b%3c%2f%61%3e%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%3c%2f%42%4f%44%59%3e%0d%0a%3c%2f%48%54%4d%4c%3e'));

    I've had some-one copy one of my listings before. I really didn't mind. In fact, it was encouraging for me and if some-one can take the time to check the competition, see who's selling and use what works then all credit to them.

    to anyone looking to get around this - you either
    a) download web page
    b) open up source code and copy it

    I find hiding transparent 1x1 pixels in my descriptions much more effective at tracing who's copied my content. Then I attach some dodgy tags to the pixel code it and report to their hosting provider. Don't even bother contacting the culprit anymore it's a waste of time
