I have just returned from a six week business trip to China. I am still learning too! Many import and export opportunities for all of you aspiring entrepreneurs.

in fact i can't agress with the ideas above not because i am Chinese but according to what i see. it is still a world that developed countries making rules and regurations. in the same time china is trying to adjust its position on international trade so more and more rules are setting on this part. but i truly know not every chinese business man is good guy that can always follow the rules but please keep a neutral attitude at doing business in china. hope it make sense.:)

I find the biggest problem with importing from China is the inability to verify the credibility of the vendor. Because of that I am extremely cautious when dealing with any seller at arms length.

First time I've seen this thread - great guide Vicky! I'm considering going over there as I am looking at ramping up one of the products we have custom packaged. What are the air fare prices like these days?

I think if you are lucky and shop around you should be able to get a return flight for around £500 but to be honest I only really know the business class prices as thats how my man flies, think it costs him around £1500 with a stop off in Dubai.

I understand from him that China Southern are about to start a service direct into Guangzhou that should be quite cheap. Where abouts in China are you going?

The supplier I currently use is in Shenzhen but I wouldn't mind combining it with a visit to a trade show.

Shenzhen is probably best accessed from Hong Kong by either train or boat. The Canton fair just up the coast in Guangzhou would be the best trade fair to aim for :)

Simple - your shipping agent will assist you with customs clearance (you will pay for this service a modest amount) and then arrange for a carrier to collect from the port and deliver to your house. Nothing could be easier.
