I've had a brainwave for a new business idea which basically revolves around a website. It won't be just a normal website though and will require someone with programming skills to design in.

Now, what is the best way to go about getting a programmer but stopping them from just running off with the idea? Is this possible or am I just going to have to put my trust in someone/some company.

Get yourself an airtight legal agreement put together.

Do I basically just need to get a contract written up saying that they agree not to run off with the idea and get them to sign this before even sharing the idea?

    Well the idea is.........

I'm guessing its best to get a contract properly written up that just writing on a napkin.

I feel quite stupid now as a contract was an easy solution. Don't know why I didn't think of it straight away.

Anyone got a clue of a price range we would be looking at to get a contract written up?

I had to sign a contract a few years back when working for a company, it basically said im not allowed to contact Mr x, i may not pass on Mr x detials to anyone else, i agree that any work undertaken by me is the property of The company and not me, and if i break the rules there take my house away and put my bin out on a wednesday, when everyone knows the bins goes out on Tuesday.

You will most likely need a confidentiality undertaking and non-disclosure agreement, looking at £150-£250

That's not too bad then (as long as the idea works).

If you could send the details over that would be great. You should have my email somewhere as I emailed you about the patent infringement the other day. (If you don't have it, just let me know)

I've had Peter contact me today and he seems like he could offer some very good advice so thank you for passing my details to him.

Oh sorry, Scott, glad you pointed that out (I keep being called Mark!), I confused you with someone else I'd just messaged.

i used a site called rentacoder which a few guys on here recommended i went to first. basically when posting a job up they have contracts already drew up whereas you can get them to agree to not disclose the info before telling them the project. just make sure you select the option that blocks 3rd world country coders etc or you have no protection as they cannot be sued within our laws.
