Will it get to a point where there'll be no need for brick-and-mortar stores where we can actually walk around inside and handle products at first hand? It certainly looks like the world is going that direction.

With the rise of augmented Reality, it certainly does feel we'll be removing the need for retail stores in the future. With this are we to see the closure of hundreds of stores across the globe, with a loss in jobs?

For those that have iPhones, in October you'll be able to view furniture in a whole new way, without actually going to your local Ikea outlet.

The IKEA Place is a brand new app, engineered by Apple, you will be able to 'preview' different furniture piece in any room of your home simply using your camera.

Whilst using your camera, pointing it at the space you'd like to see a new coffee table, bed, or settee, the app will superimpose a scaled image of that piece of furniture in that space. Just don't actually try sitting down; injuries may occur :p

The app will allow you to fully get close up to the AR furniture, as well as rotating it to fit your needs.
Although the full catalog of IKEA products won't be available straight away, we can expect the app to arrive with the release of Apple's iOS 11 in October, along with its Apple ARKit (an AR framework) that allows you to create "unparalleled augmented reality experiences for iPhone and iPad."
