    In this thread, we at TWF would like to give you regular news regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. This thread will be focusing on worldwide news, whether on country conditions, or business related to COVID-19.

    With a lot that is happening around the world right now, sure enough, everyone here that has a business will feel some effect of the pandemic. Global trade might be scarce, sourcing products might be difficult, or that even selling products will be slower than usual. It is best to be aware on what is happening not just in the UK, but globally as well for businesses to adjust their plans in doing business.

    News:

    • Both New Zealand and Australia has closed their borders. Foreigners are no longer allowed to enter the country to stop further spread of the virus.
      New Zealand will start closing off borders midnight Thursday
      Australia will close borders 9:00 PM AU time Friday.

    • Car makers Ford, General Motors, and Fiat Chrysler will temporarily suspend all US factories due to coronavirus. All 3 companies have said they will cease operations until 30th of March, 25 factories closed, and 150,000 workers affected.

    • China has reported that it has 0 locally transmitted cases today. All 34 cases have been from people coming from other countries.

    UK News:

    The Ministry of Defence will add 10,000 more military personnel at a higher readiness and other Reserve forces to be put on standby to be able to assist in supporting public services, this will be on top of the 10,000 already held at higher readiness, announced by the Defence Secretary.

    In addition, 150 military personnel will be trained to drive on Oxygen tankers to support the NHS when necessary. They will be gin training Monday.

    As of 20 March, 2020:

    • Italy now surpasses China as country with most COVID-19 related deaths, up 427 over the last 24 hours.
      Italy: 3.405
      China: 3,248

    • Prototypes of ventilators in the UK are ready and should - hopefully, hit hospitals at the end of next week
    • Retired doctors and nurses in England and Wales are being sent letters asking them to return to NHS to help with the Coronavirus outbreak. personnel counted to over 65,000

    • Saudi Arabia has suspended daily prayers and weekly Friday prayers inside and out side the mosques in Mecca and Medina

    • YouTube will reduce streaming quality in Europe after worries of straining the internet. All videos will be on Standard Definition by default

    • Philippines locks borders, no foreigners are now allowed to travel to the country. Also asked local government units to stand down and follow national gov directives

    • Olympic flame lands in Japan, although doubts still remain whether the Olympics should continue as scheduled, beginning 24th July

    • US state of California issues a stay at home order, as deaths in the US hits 200 (currently at 217, with 14,366 total cases)

    • Bank of England to cut interest rates, from 0.25%, now to 0.1%

    • Technology firm Smiths Group will be making one of its ventilators available for other manufacturers to produce.

    • Spain has now recorded 1,326 deaths, 300+ additions over the last 24 hours.

    • Thailand records 89 new cases, now Bangkok has ordered shutdowns of malls, schools restaurants, and other establishments.

    • Sydney's Bondi Beach closed down, after citizens flocked to the beach, defying government orders and disregarded social distancing measures

    • Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told parliament that it is possible that the Olympics may be postponed if holding it completely becomes impossible, however, cancellation will not be an option.

    • Canada will not participate in the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, concerning the health and safety of their athletes, Australia is also preparing for a postponement of the games.

    • South Korea has seen its 12th day in a row wherein new infections recorded are 100 or less, hopes that this is the start of a downward trend.

    • New Zealand will move into its highest alert level, wherein all non essential services, schools, offices to be shut down for 48 hours

    • 3 Doctors passed away in the Philippines, other doctors are in critical condition, and hundreds more are under quarantine.

    • Football stadiums in Brazil will be made as field hospitals for coronavirus.

    • UK now has access to 12,000 ventilators after buying from providers and manufacturers stepping up production.

    • US cases now surpass 35,000, with recorded 471 deaths


    As of writing, total global count now reaches 350,000 cases and 15,315 deaths. Recorded recoveries count to more than 100,000

    • Prime Minister Boris Johnson begins UK lockdown. All shops not selling essential goods will be shut down, and citizens will only be allowed to head outside to buy supplies, short exercise, address medical needs, or travel to work if deemed necessary. Lockdown will be reviewed again after 3 weeks.

    • New Zealand will begin lockdown on Wednesday, asking citizens to begin distancing themselves from other people

    • China tightens security against foreigners visiting the country. All arriving foreigners will be given tests and will have a 14 day quarantine

    • India begins total lockdown. 1.3 billion people urged to stay at home and will last for 21 days. Indian citizens now scramble to buy supplies.

    • Philippine Senator positive in COVID-19, possibly infected 8 medical personnel for not inforrming hospital that he is infected

    • More than 158,000 volunteered to help NHS hours after its request for volunteer help

    • Vietnam stops new rice export contracts until 28 March. Government requests report on domestic rice supply

    • Emirates grounds most passenger operations, but will retain cargo operations

    • US FDA has approved Abbot Laboratories' new coronavirus testing for emergency use, which can deliver results between 5 - 13 minutes. Production will ensure 50,000 made per day

    • PM Boris Johnson moved to intensive care due to worsening condition, symptoms of COVID-19

    • Japan set to announce state of emergency, Shinzo Abe scheduled to speak to media at 10:00 GMT

    • Philippines extended Lockdown until 30 April

    • US passed 10,000 death toll, braces for peak death week

    Breaking Update:

    Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has already declared a State of Emergency in Tokyo. Beginning tomorrow most establishments will be closed and will last for 1 month.
